Augsburg Airport - AGB Augsburg
Augsburg Airport (AGB) is a public airport based in Bavaria, Germany’s third biggest city, Augsburg. Augsburger Flughafen GmbH currently operates it. The airport’s only runway measures 5,230 feet. Today, due to its size and limited capacity, it mostly serves general aviation and charter flights.
Best Time to Visit
In 1968, Augsburg Airport began its operations after the closing of an airport nearby due to the establishment of the University of Augsburg in the site. Nearly two (2) decades later, scheduled domestic flights of Interot Airways were introduced at the airport. Eventually, the airline added more popular routes such as Leipzig, Hamburg, Dresden, Cologne, and Berlin. Needless to say, it became the perfect alternative for those who wish to avoid Munich Airport, which has high passenger traffic due to its strategic location. In 1995, Interot Airways launched international flights, particularly to London. However, with the airline becoming part of Team Lufthansa a year later, it completely ceased its operations in Augsburg Airport by 2002. Since then, it has been used for charter flights and general aviation. It was in 2016 when commercial flights were reintroduced, with weekly flights to Saizburg. It is quite a challenge for Augsburg Airport to accommodate mid- and large-sized aircrafts due to the short length of its runway. Popular destinations nearby include Eisenhofen, Hofolding, Oberding, among others.
