Best Time to Visit
Mokpo Airport is a small military airport with an asphalt runway measuring 5,249 feet. A narrow runway and an often-misty weather, a frequent problem encountered by aircrafts, characterize the airport. In 1993, Asiana airlines Flight 733 crash about four kilometers from the runway due to poor weather, which caused a number of deaths. The incident caused fewer passengers to take routes to the airport and alternatively rides the Seohaean Expressway. During that time, the airport handled flight to Jeju, Busan and Seoul. Based on 2006 statistics, the airport served 16,909 passengers but soon after in 2007, the airport closed as the new Muan International Airport opened nearby.
