Muan International Airport – MWX Mokpo, South Korea
An international airport that opened only in November 2007 is found in Mokpo, South Korea is the Muan International Airport (MWX). Since then there has been a constant influx of passengers, making it the 5th busiest in South Korea. In 2018, it recorded a passenger traffic of 543,247. The airport serves the Jeollanam-do. It was completed after 10 years of construction and replaced the nearby Mokpo Airport for domestic flights and an alternate to Gwangju’s international flights. It is situated near a naturally beautiful landscape and coastline.
Best Time to Visit
MWX Airport has one concrete runway for daytime landings only. It can handle most commercial jumbo jets and long haul transport aircraft as well as large turboprop commuters, short and medium haul aircraft. There is a two-storey terminal with 4 arrival gates in the ground floor and another 4 gates for departure upstairs. The resumption of regular flights between the airport and Shanghai has led MWX Airport to handle its largest flight capacity. There are also 8 other regular international and an expansion of international flights is in the works. Changnok-tong, Ssangnae and Kasan in Gwangju region rely on the airport for its aviation services.
What to Do & Area Attractions
There are several hotels that are accessible to both the airport and the beach among them: Muan Beach Hotel, Sangia Beach Tourist Hotel and the Fontana Beach Hotel. These are located 10.35 to 11.2 miles from the airport.
The nearby Mokpo Air Base (MPK), which offers in-bound flights and was closed down when MWX Airport opened in November 2007.
