King Khalid International Airport – RUH Riyadh
King Khalid International Airport is located in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia and can be reached 22 miles from the north of the city. It is the second biggest airport in the country with Jeddah Airport being the first. RUH operates a central control tower hailed as one of the tallest control towers in the world and two runways.
The land where the airport was built is also one of the biggest in the world and is the second largest following King Fahd International Airport in Dammam, Saudi Arabia. This major international airport became an alternative landing for NASA’s Space Shuttle.
Best Time to Visit
RUH-Riyadh Airport was inaugurated in 1983. Prior to its opening, the Riyadh Air Base was the primary commercial airport in Riyadh which is closer to the city and is run by the Royal Saudi Air Force. RUH has five passenger terminals and a separate royal terminal where heads of state visitors, VIP passengers, and the royal families’ guests are welcomed into the city. This international airport serves the cities of Diryah and Riyadh including the Diplomatic Quarter.
