The Corferias Convention Center is a popular landmark in Bogota. It lies in between two neighborhoods, El Recuerdo and Quinta Paredes. The convention center was intended for simple fairs at first, but it gained more significance later on as it became the venue for various local and international social activities. In fact, it has also been a useful venue for every voting season in Bogota. The Corferias Convention Center was built in 1954. It had its renovation and expansion twice, one in 2009 and another in 2011. In 2010, the convention center already housed 17 pavilions and 15,000 square meters of uncovered space. One of its facilities, the Gran Salon, has a 6000-seat capacity, but will soon be dethroned as the biggest on-site venue with a new 10,500-seat pavilion.
